FAQs

Puppyworld

  • What vaccinations does a puppy need?

Puppies typically receive their vaccinations at 6, 8, 12, and 16 weeks of age. All puppies at Puppyworld are current with age-appropriate vaccinations at the time of purchase. As the new owner, it becomes your responsibility to continue veterinary care and maintain the vaccination schedule. Our puppies also undergo deworming every two weeks since they live in a kennel environment similar to daycare. This deworming may continue up to 4 months of age as puppies can contract worms from their mother's milk. After purchase, it's the new owner's responsibility to follow any deworming recommendations provided by their veterinarian.
  • What should be my first step after I purchase my puppy?

To activate your Puppyworld warranty, you must take your new puppy to a veterinarian within the first 7 days after purchase. We provide a coupon for a free exam at our partner veterinary clinics. This initial examination not only activates your warranty but also gives your puppy a thorough health check and helps you establish a relationship with a veterinarian if you don't already have one. The vet will also inform you about the schedule for any remaining vaccinations or deworming treatments your puppy may need.
  • What do I need when I first get a puppy?

For first-time dog owners, essential items include food, dishes for food and water, training treats, chew toys, numerous playthings, and a wire training kennel. Training treats serve as positive reinforcement when your puppy follows commands during potty training or basic obedience like sit and stay. Chew items such as bully sticks, rawhide alternatives, and toys are crucial to keep your puppy entertained and prevent them from chewing inappropriate items. A training kennel provides a safe space for your puppy when you're absent or sleeping, preventing mischief and supporting potty training by teaching them to wait until you're available.
  • What do your puppies all include?

Every puppy from our facility comes with up-to-date age-appropriate vaccinations and deworming treatments. They're covered by our warranty on life and hips, which is fully detailed on our website. Additionally, all our puppies undergo veterinary examinations before arrival and come equipped with microchips for identification purposes.
  • What is a microchip?

Our puppies are microchipped through Home Again microchip services. It's important to note that a microchip is an identification device, not a tracking system, so you cannot track your dog's location if they wander off. Once you register your contact information with the microchip service, this data becomes linked to the chip already implanted in your puppy. Should your dog ever become lost, escape, or be stolen and subsequently be brought to a veterinary clinic or animal shelter, they can scan the microchip and contact you to reunite you with your pet.
  • Are our puppies spayed or neutered?

Our puppies range from 2 to 4 months of age, which is too young for spaying or neutering procedures. The responsibility for these surgical procedures falls to the new owner, should they choose to have their puppy altered.
  • How do I choose puppy food?

Each puppy from Puppyworld goes home with a supply of Health Extension food. This holistic dry dog food is formulated for all life stages. The brand offers various flavors, package sizes, and grain-free options to suit the needs of any dog.
  • What treats and toys are good for puppies?

Rawhide alternatives are excellent options for young puppies, as traditional rawhide can be difficult to digest and may cause stomach issues. We recommend all-natural treats that are long-lasting and engaging for your puppy. At our store, we carry several brands with diverse treat options, including Red Barn, Vital Essentials, and Bark Harvest.
  • How do I get my new puppy used to grooming?

For puppies requiring regular grooming, early handling at home is recommended to build familiarity. Establish a routine of frequent brushing, and gently touch their paws and face to accustom them to being handled. Practice holding their paws to prepare them for nail trims. Regular professional grooming appointments are important to prevent matting, which can cause pain and lead to behavioral issues during grooming sessions.
